Cette aventure en Amazonie m’a amené en Amérique du Sud pour la 3e fois en l’espace de 20 mois…après le Chili, l’Argentine, l’Équateur et le Pérou, nous avons encore eu l’opportunité de jouir de l’hospitalité typiquement américano-latine du Brésil…nous avons vraiment apprécié notre voyage…bien que nous n’avons fait qu’égratigner la surface de ce que l’Amazonie a à offrir, nous avons eu la chance d’observer un écosystème d’une immense complexité et d’un charme incroyable…je dois dire que le premier matin dans la jungle, après 90 minutes de marche dans une température de 38 Celsius et 3000 % d’humidité, et que je n’avais pas de photos dans ma caméra alors que j’en aurais eu 500-600 en temps normal, je commençais à avoir des doutes sur mon choix d’excursion…la confiance est revenue en fin d’après-midi lorsque lors de notre excursion j’ai pu observé plusieurs espèces d’oiseaux et quelques caïmans...
Le restant de semaine fut une expérience inoubliable…des poissons qui sautent dans le bateau…la pêche aux piranhas…Manuel le singe…Wally l’Alligator…des hérons à en plus finir…des martins-pêcheurs…des dauphins roses…etc…,etc…,etc…la complexité et biodiversité de cet écosystème est tout simplement incroyable…tout est inter relié…on se doit aussi de souligner la témérité des gens qui vivent en Amazonie…lorsqu’on s’imagine que le niveau de l’eau est plus haut de 10 m durant la saison des pluies et que les habitants sont appelés à déménager chaque année pour éviter de se faire emporter le courant de la plus longue rivière du monde, la rivière Amazone…
Nous avons beaucoup aimé notre expérience sur le IBEROSTAR Grand Amazon…l’hospitalité des représentants d’IBEROSTAR était superbe…l’expérience et la qualité des guides ont vraiment fait la différence sur cette excursion…donc à Marco, George, Rafaël, João, Jefferson, Euler, Eris et tous les autres membres de l’équipage…MUCHO OBRIGADO…
Et que dire de nos hôtes qui nous ont fait vivre une si belle expérience à São Paulo…on n’aurait pas pu finir notre voyage d’une plus belle façon…être reparti du Brésil sans visiter São Paulo, une des grandes métropoles du monde, aurait vraiment été notre perte…au contraire nous sommes repartis enrichis de notre visite de cette ville si vibrante…donc à vous deux, pour votre si grande hospitalité…MUCHO OBRIGADO...

Amazonie…MUCHO OBRIGADA
This adventure in the Amazon has brought me to South America for the 3rd time in less than 20 months…after Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru we had another opportunity to experience typical Latin American hospitality in Brazil…we really have enjoyed our trip…and while we have only scratched the surface of what the Amazon has to offer, we had the opportunity to observe an incredible ecosystem of an unbelievable charm…I must say that I was a bit discouraged the first morning when after a walk of 90 minutes in the hot (38 Celsius) and humid (3000%) jungle I didn’t really have any shots to speak of when normally I would have had 500-60, I was really starting a have doubts about having picked the right excursion…the confidence came back on our late afternoon excursion when I saw quite a few species of birds I had never seen before and some caimans…
The rest of the week was unforgettable…fishes that jump in boats…piranha fishing…Manuel de monkey…Wally the Gator…herons like you wouldn’t believe…kingfishers all over…pink dolphins…etc…, etc…, etc…the biodiversity and the complexity of this ecosystem is simply unbelievable…everything is interconnected in the Amazon…you also have to highlight the courage of the folks that live in the Amazon…especially when you think that the water level is 10 meters (30 feet) higher during the rainy season…those folks have to move every year to avoid being swept by the powerful flows of the longest river in the world…the Amazon river…
We really enjoyed our cruise on the IBEROSTAR Grand Amazon…the hospitality of the folks on the IBEROSTAR was simply superb…the quality and the experience of the guides really made a difference on this excursion…so to Marco, George, Rafaël, João, Jefferson, Euler, Eris and all the other members of the crew…MUCHO OBRIGADO…
To our hosts in São Paulo who made it possible for us to experience São Paulo with such a personal touch…our trip could not have ended on a better note…had we left Brazil without visiting São Paulo, one of the largest metropolis in the world, would have been our loss…instead we left Brazil richer four having visited such a vibrant city…so, to the two of you for your great hospitality…MUCHO OBRIGADO…

Notre journée à São Paulo a été superbe…toute une ville…parfois, avant de voir une grande cité pour la première fois, on se fait une impression et lorsqu’on y met les pieds ce n’est pas comme on s’imaginait…c’était le cas lorsque j’ai mis les pieds à Pékin en 1999 et j’ai vraiment eu un choc lorsque nous sommes entrés à São Paulo…sans aucun doute, São Paulo est une des grandes métropoles de cette planète…elle est immense…elle est moderne…elle est vibrante…elle est en plein essor…elle est plaisante à regarder…
Nous avons pris un taxi de l’hôtel près de l’aéroport où nous avons demeuré la veille pour nous rendre à la résidence du cousin à Monique où il demeure avec son épouse et ses deux petites filles…son cousin demeure à São Paulo depuis 5 ans et son épouse est originaire de São Paulo…on n’aurait pas pu demander pour un meilleur guide pour nous présenter la ville et ses atouts…elle connaît très bien la ville et elle est une superbe ambassadrice pour São Paulo…une visite du centre-ville nous présente une infrastructure moderne et une passion pour le design…l’architecture des gratte-ciels est plaisante et jamais ennuyante…on y voit de la construction partout…la densité de son centre-ville est un indicateur de sa grande population…on a pas besoin de plus de preuve que le pont « Bridge Octavio Frias de Oliveira », un pont suspendu qui a la caractéristique unique d’avoir 2 courbes et un mat géant en forme de X…il n’y a qu’un mot pour décrire cette merveille d’ingénierie…WOW…on a même conduit la voiture sur le pont…j’ai pris quelques photos de la voiture, mais elles ne sont pas trop bonnes, car nous ne pouvions pas arrêter la voiture sur le pont…8^)…donc j’ai inclus un lien à un site qui donne une meilleure représentation du pont…
On dit qu’on peut juger une grande ville par son expérience culinaire, et bien je n’ai pas été déçu…São Paulo n’en avait pas besoin pour se qualifier comme grande ville, mais si on ne fait qu’y ajouter la nourriture que j’ai eu la chance de déguster, São Paulo monte définitivement au haut de la liste…pour le lunch j’ai eu la chance de faire l’expérience d’un churrascaria brésilien…tout un repas…un churrascaria, c’est un « steak house » brésilien…je ne suis pas sûr s’ils sont tous semblables, mais on me dit qu’un des meilleurs à São Paulo est le Jardineira Grill (j’ai inclus un lien)…c’est comme un buffet, mais au lieu d’aller à la viande, la viande vient vers nous…habituellement enfourcher sur une brochette géante…et la viande continue d’être offerte jusqu’à ce que l’on retourne le petit jeton sur le coté rouge (rouge pour arrêt)…comme j’ai bien la viande, je dois dire que c’est définitivement la meilleure expérience culinaire que j’ai jamais eue…
Donc grâce à nos hôtes notre journée à São Paulo s’est avérée superbe…notre visite n’a pas été longue, mais elle nous a définitivement impressionné…je m’imagine ce que nous aurions découvert si nous avions demeurer un peu plus longtemps…toute une façon de finir notre aventure…de la jungle de l’Amazonie à une des grandes métropoles du monde, São Paulo…

We spent a great day in São Paulo…what a city…sometimes, before you see a big city for the first time, you make your own images and when you get there you realize that it’s nothing like what you imagined…it happened to me when I first set foot in Beijing in 1999 and boy did it happen to me in São Paulo today…no question, São Paulo is one of the great cities on this planet…it’s big…it’s modern…it’s vibrant…it’s booming…it’s eye pleasing…
We took a taxi from the airport hotel we stayed at and headed downtown to meet Monique’s cousin and his wife…Monique’s cousin has been there for 5 years and his wife is from São Paulo...so one could not ask for a better guide to show us the city and she is a great ambassador for this world class city…what you see as you visit downtown is a city that has very modern infrastructure and a passion for design…the architecture of the skyscrapers is very pleasing and the view is never boring…their construction industry is booming…you can tell it’s a large city by the density of the buildings downtown. If one needs proof of the modern design passion of São Paulo, one only has to see the “Bridge Octavio Frias de Oliveira”, a double curved suspension bridge with a X-shaped mast...there is only one word to describe it…WOW…we even drove on it…I took a few pictures from the car…the pictures weren’t that great because we could not stop the car in the middle of the bridge…8^)…so I included a link to a page that really shows great pics of the bridge…
Now, they say you can also judge a great city by its food experience…well if the architecture and design of the city wasn’t enough, and it was…add to that the food, and São Paulo really makes it to the top…I had the opportunity to experience a Brazilian Churrascaria…what a treat…a Churrascaria is a steak house…not sure if they’re all the same, but one of the best one, I am told, is Jardineira Grill (I have included the link)…it’s like a buffet, but the instead of you going to the meat…the meat comes to you…what a concept…all sort of meats come to you…usually on a king sized skewer…it’s cut at your table and they keep coming unless you turn the little coaster they give you to the RED side (red for stop)…being a the top of the food chain myself, I must say that this was without a doubt the best and most tasty meal I have ever had…
So, thanks to our hosts we had a superb day in São Paulo…while we did not stay long in São Paulo, this visit left us with an impression of a vibrant, modern, world class city. I can just imagine what we would have discovered if we had stayed longer…it was definitely a memorable experience…what a way to finish our adventure…from the jungle of the Amazon the metropolis of São Paulo…8^)

(English follows)L’aventure est maintenant terminée…nous sommes retournés au port de Manaus ce matin…nous repartons vers São Paulo cet après-midi…nous avons 9 heures d’attente à l’aéroport de Manaus…en ligne droite, plus de 2,700 km séparent les deux villes…un vol de plus de 3 ½ heures…demain nous passons la journée à São Paulo…Monique a un cousin qui demeure là avec sa famille…une très belle journée en perspective…À la prochaine!
The adventure is over…we returned to the port in Manaus this morning…we are returning to São Paulo this afternoon…we have a 9 hours wait at the airport in Manaus…in straight line, Manaus is 2,700 km (1,700 mi) from São Paulo…the flight takes more than 3 ½ hours…tomorrow we will spend the day in São Paulo…Monique has a cousin that lives there with his family…I see a great day in perspective…Talk to you later! ...
